Infusing Midcentury Modern Into Every Detail

Despite Walden House’s lack of midcentury roots, we wove the era's spirit into every corner. Retro-inspired knobs and striking furniture silhouettes set the tone, while clean lines and bold accents created a cohesive and timeless aesthetic. The result? A home that feels playful yet sophisticated—a perfect reflection of midcentury modern ideals.

Challenges Turned Into Design Features

• The Staircase Debate: While some might argue for a dramatic overhaul, we decided against relocating the staircase. Instead, we embraced it as part of the home’s story and worked around it, ensuring it blended seamlessly with the midcentury theme.

• Poles With a Purpose: Every home we renovate has at least one structural pole we can't move. At Walden House, we turned this into an opportunity. By mirroring the poles’ design with elements in the fireplace, railings, and hallways, they became an intentional and cohesive feature. The result? Poles that meet code while remaining nearly invisible within the design.

Spaces That Surprised Us

• From Bookshelf to Office: Transforming a simple bookcase into a functional home office was one of the most delightful surprises of the project. It’s now a purposeful, stylish space perfect for work or study.

• The Kids’ Bathroom: What was once a disastrous space has become a showstopper. It’s now a favorite room in the house—proof that even the most challenging areas can be turned into something remarkable.

A Living Room Lifted to New Heights

One of the most dramatic changes was in the living room. Previously sunken, we raised the floor to create a more open and functional space. Paired with lifted ceilings, this change brought light and airiness to the heart of the home, transforming it into a vibrant gathering space.
